Volunteers

Since our very first week of camp in 1954, Fowler has relied on the wisdom,  care, enthusiasm, and love of Christ found in our weekly volunteers.  Each summer we have over 100 adults volunteer at Camp, primarily to serve as cabin counselors for the 600 campers we have the privilege of hosting every year.

Volunteer cabin counselors work hand-in-hand with our summer staff in order to provide a space where children can be themselves, take risks, and learn about the world. Summer staff are responsible for leading all programming while volunteer counselors provide support.

We can’t do it without you.

Our volunteer cabin counselors are adults (ages 18+) from throughout upstate NY and beyond. Many of them are members of local churches who believe in the mission of Fowler; others are former campers and staff who stay connected to Camp by volunteering. Our cabin counselors are often parents, teachers, pastors, or college students. In other words: they are the Body of Christ coming together to witness to the love that God has shown each of them.

Application

We accept applications for three types of volunteers: Cabin Counselors, Maintenance Volunteers, and Dining Room Support Volunteers. We have high standards for our adult volunteers in order to care for our campers. All volunteers go through a thorough application and vetting process, including written application, submission of 2 references, and a background check.

Children of Volunteers

If you have a child attending Camp with you during your volunteer week, be sure to have them request you as one of their “cabin mates” in their online registration account. We also allow volunteers to bring “Tag-a-long” campers. Tag-a-longs are campers who are too young to attend Camp as a typical camper, but who may attend with an adult that knows them well. If you wish to bring a tag-a-long with you during your volunteer week, please fill out an application below.

Application Process

Volunteer applications open on December 1st for the upcoming summer. We accept volunteer applications on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

Applications will only be reviewed after both references have been received. References must be completed by two people who know you well and can speak to your gifts. They may not be related to you. The reference form is found online.

Confirmation of volunteer positions occurs in batches. There may be a delay between submitting your application and receiving confirmation.

If you come, they come.
