Listening Heart Retreat
October 22nd-25th, 2019
Encourage the nature of a listening heart
"And don't we all, with fierce hunger, crave a cave of solitude, a space of deep listening--full of quiet darkness and stars, until finally we hear a syllable of God echoing in the cave of our hearts." --Macrina Wiederkehr
This contemplative retreat invites us to step outside our normal lives and to reflect on where we have been, and where we might be going; to catch a glimpse of how we might live differently, and to listen for the still small-voice of God. Together we will nurture our desire for prayer. Contemplative prayer practices will be introduced. Opportunity is provided to meet with a spiritual director. Times of silence, including some meals, will occur. Rest will be honored...Renewal encouraged...Fellowship fostered.
“Over the years, Fowler has been a special sacred place of pilgrimage where we bring our desire for God and for the healing of the world. I believe it is crucial that we listen to one another, that we acknowledge both the similarities and differences in the details of our lives, that we bring the fullness of our lives, with all the wonders and messiness, into our life of prayer; and that we hear our lives and pray with them in the context of the larger systems of which we are a part. Our practices of prayer, reflection, and contemplation call us not to stand in isolation from the world but rather to live in profound relationship with it, and to acknowledge how are connected to one another and to God.
