Fowler Board of Trustees
As a Nonprofit Organization, Camp Fowler is governed by a Board of Trustees. The primary responsibilities of this Board are to safeguard the mission, protect assets, and increase resources; they supervise and guide organizational functioning. The Board is made up of a diverse group of people who are passionate about the ministry of Camp Fowler. These people serve as representatives for Fowler to various Churches, Committees, and Communities.
Tom has been a member of the Board since 2014. He is from Athens, NY and worships at Delmar Reformed Church. He has been a District Manager for Cumberland Farms and enjoys coaching youth soccer. Tom appreciates watching his boy’s glee while at Fowler, whether during a week of camp, family camp or during Creation Celebration in the fall. For him personally, the inner peace and tranquillity he feels upon pulling into the entrance at Fowler makes the place special.
Laura has been a member of the Board since 2017. She is from Roxbury, NY and is a member at Gould Memorial Reformed Church. Laura is a school Gardener and a substitute teacher and has taught church school at her church for the last 12 years. For Laura, Fowler is unique in the way that it offers people a unique lifestyle of stewardship. She appreciates the emphasis Fowler puts on valuing all resources.
Jana has been a member of the Board since 2010. She is from Fairport, NY and is a member at Trinity Reformed Church in Rochester. Jana was a Girl Scout Leader and Church secretary for 25 years. Now she enjoys being a retired Grandma who sings with a community chorus and orchestra, volunteers yearly at camp, and cares for her elderly parents. Jana appreciates the way Fowler cultivates fellowship and belonging and leaves her feeling spiritually uplifted.
Steve represents the Property Committee on the Board of Trustees and he has been a member since 2019. Steve is from Fonda, NY and he is a member at Fonda Reformed Church. He builds rustic furniture for a living and spends lots of time at Camp fixing things that we didn’t know were broken. Steve is an invaluable asset to our Board and our Property Committee.
Tim has been a member of the Board since 2019. He is from Scotia, NY and is a Co-Pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Tim enjoys being a biblical storyteller and a life and career coach. He was also a former Camp Counselor. He appreciates Fowler’s emphasis on having kids live in community, without devices, connecting with nature, one another, and God.
Brian has been a member of the Board since 2012. He is from Mohawk, NY, where he serves as the pastor at Mohawk Reformed Church. He is the father of four daughters, all of whom have enjoyed attending Summer Camp at one point or another. Brian’s family also has attended Family Camp at Fowler. He appreciates the beauty and space that Fowler offers.
Pete has been a member of the Board since 2016. He is from Newark, NY and is a member at Woodlane Community Church. He works full time as a heating and cooling service technician and enjoys driving the School Bus for the local School district. Through his time volunteering for Fowler, Pete has enjoyed being able to work with people who share their gifts willingly and have a passion to share the love of Jesus Christ with others.
Rob has been a member of the Board since 2014. He’s from Rotterdam, NY and is a member of Bellevue Reformed Church, where he served as the Director of Youth Ministry for 20 years. He is an Elementary Music Teacher and spends one week every summer volunteering at Fowler. He appreciates the ability that Fowler has to offer something for everyone. For Rob, Fowler is made special by the people that are part of it.
Becky has been a member of the Board since 2013. She is from Schenectady, NY and she is a member at The First Reformed Church in Albany. She is a former reading specialist for the Schenectady School District and, in retirement, she travels around the country working with Habitat for Humanity and cooking at Camp Fowler. She appreciates Fowler’s focus on caring for creation and for making sure all feel welcome.
Chris represents the Program Committee on the Board of Trustees. She’s from Albany, NY and she grew up coming to Camp Fowler as a camper and worked as part of Summer Staff for 5 years. She served in the Peace Corps in Independent Samoa from 2008-2010 and now she is a School Counselor, painter, knitter, and recent “actual aunt.” She appreciates the relationships and connections that develop at Fowler and the discoveries children and adults can make about their world and themselves.
Brenda has been a member of the Board since 2018. She is from Fort Plain, NY and she’s a member at Fort Plain Reformed Church. She works in Human Services for New York State and is a Christian Educator at her church. She also enjoys volunteering at Fowler. She appreciates Fowler’s love for creation and how the community lives out its values.
Judi has been a member of the Board since 2014. She’s from Nassau, NY and is a remember of Nassau Reformed Church, where she previously served as the Financial Secretary for 40 years. She was a Middle School Math teacher for 30 years and is now retired. She spends her time volunteering at the local elementary school, the food pantry, and at her Church. Judi appreciates the openness of the space at Fowler and the way all people are welcome.
Bill has been a member of the Board since 2015. He’s from Glenville, NY and he is a member at Lynnwood Reformed Church. Bill is a retired environmental engineer finding new adventures in kayaking, opera, biking, traveling, and bowhunting. He appreciates the way that Fowler helps to create relationships between people and emphasizes caring for the Earth.
Janelle has been a member of the Board since 2018. She is from Glenmont, NY and she is a member at Journey United Church of Christ in Albany. She worked as a Statistical Analyst in the Insurance Industry for over 20 years, and, now retired, loves spending time with family and friends, is a caregiver and advocate for the elderly, and stays active with church, local and national social activism. Janelle appreciates that Fowler is a place where children (of all ages) can express their faith, their love of nature and feel safe and loved.
Rudy has been a member of the Board since 2018. He is from Kinderhook, NY and is the pastor at Kinderhook Reformed Church. Rudy enjoys spending his time being served through serving others, both in his church and in his community. One thing that he appreciates about Fowler is the knowledge he has that his children are growing in a spiritually safe environment.
