Wilderness Leadership Training at FowlerFowler has been leading trips with groups of campers into the Adirondack Backcountry since the early 1970's. We have always sought to foster a sense of wonder, joy, and care in each of our participants while providing an atmosphere of safety and learning. We now would like to begin offering trips for adults who are interested in learning how to lead similar trips themselves. The course will be 5 days long and take place in one of the most remote areas of the Adirondacks: the West Canada Wilderness. Leading this will be Kent Busman, Fowler director for over 20 years, and Lindsay Close, who first came to Fowler in the 1990's on a wilderness training course through Hope College and has been guiding trips here ever since. Each instructor is experienced in backcountry travel and has first aid certification in CPR, RTE, and Lifeguarding. The course for 2008 will be all backpacking and will include training in:
Participants need only provide appropriate hiking boots and sleeping bag (it will be getting down possibly still into the 20's at night in May! Be prepared for chilly nights. For more information, email Camp Fowler at campfowler@rca.org To register, click here
