Time Well Spent

Posted May 1, 2013

Our goal this summer is to have 850 campers spend a week with us at camp.

That's that's 8.56 MILLION MINUTES enjoying nature and this beautiful World of Wonders.

Help us reach out goal by:

  • Inviting a child to camp
  • Sponsoring a camper
  • Signing up for a second week
  • Offering scholarships from your church... and then finding the children to use them!
  •  Praying that the experiences this summer, for all camps, will be safe and powerful.

More than just Summer Camp

Hey, we thought we'd take a moment to share what else happens at camp this time of year!

Hope College May Term: For 20 years Fowler has partnered with Hope College to host and "Ecological Theology Course" which includes 8 days in the backcountry canoeing and backpacking. They arrive in early May and many staff such as Aunt Jenna, Aunt Lindsay, Aunt Samantha, Uncle Matt, and Aunt Hannah, have found out about Fowler through this course.

WORK WEEKEND sponsored by the Camp Fowler Boosters: This is our longest running event. Since 1956, volunteers have worked over Memorial Day Weekend to prepare the grounds and buildings for another summer. Come join us this year as we add an Open House on Saturday, May 25. Come to work or just walk around and see what YOUR CAMP is up.

Continued progress: is being made on our Capital Projects. This summer we will be in our new Health Center and we will dedicate a finished LEET NATURE CENTER. We also are having a second 15 kwh solar array installed with the goal of producing 50% of our electrical needs on site!

On top of all of this we are having our best summer camp enrollment in years. There is still room in many of our weeks, but don't wait to long. You don't want to miss your summer at Camp Fowler!

Here's a video that some friends of ours from the Methodist Church did for us a year or so ago.

See you at Camp!

Wilderness Camping

Posted March 20, 2013

I just returned from a day of backcountry skiing in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area. This is where many of you have gone for a Fowler Backpacking or Paths and Paddles trip. It was beautiful in the woods, surrounded by the silence of late winter, broken only by the sound of skis on snow. We skied through an area that would normally take us a day or two to hike with a group and I remembered how important these woods really are.

For some of our campers, their "time" at Camp Fowler will be spent hiking through the High Peaks or West Canada Wilderness. Some will paddle canoes or kayaks through some of the wildest areas in the Northeast. Some will, for the first time pitch a tent, cook over a camp stove, and fall asleep with only the moon for a night light.

These are some of the things that shape the lives of our children.

Fowler offers many opportunities to be in the Adirondack backcountry where  your child will grow in strength, confidence, joy, and wonder.

It's Time . . .
