Welcome to winter! Well, not "real" winter yet, but we've got a bit of snow on the ground and are in to our busy retreat season.
There will be more than 15 groups that will come up in January alone to retreat in Pine or Troost, enjoy the hearty Adirondack cooking of Aunt Nancy and the crew in Chi Rho, seclude themselves away in the comfort of our Prayer Cabins, or throw their hearts and hands into the ongoing work of the camp office.
If you've not booked your winter or spring time at camp yet, check out our rentals page and find a time to come.
The year round staff at Fowler wish for you joy and cheer and much laughter during this holy season:

Back Row: Mark Hughes - Operations, Debra Batcher - Administrator, Jim Gunty - Weekend Host, Nancy Williams - Chi Rho Cook, Sandy Narusky - Bookkeeper, Jen Kenneally - Development,

Welcome to your Camp 2012.

15 friends of Fowler came out this week to meet Mark Hughes, our wonderful new manager, and to help us work towards finishing our second Prayer Cabin and the make-over on Suits Hall. The "Leet Nature Center" in Suits is coming together with a finished, tongue and groove ceiling, new window seat storage, and beautiful wrought iron lights being installed.Work on the front porch and back deck and bathrooms is set to be finished by summer camp 2012. A dedication of the Leet Nature Center is already set for Saturday, August 4. We are excited for this old building to start its new life!

The Skennen Cabin is close to being finished with flooring and trim now completed. Our targeted opening date for reservations will be January 15. Once again, all of the work has been done by volunteers and a special "thumbs up" goes to Paul Hesse for coordinating most of the work on this wonderful new, year round cabin.
Work is also being done on the new Fowler Office which is located at the entrance to camp off the front of the ARC. The logs are locally harvested and form a porch to enter the office as well as the ARC. All of these projects are a result of the Fowler Master Plan which was approved in 2003 and all the monies ($2.4 million total) were raised so that each of these projects are fully funded.
Just a quick note of thanks to all who were part of our 3rd Annual Harvest Dinner on Monday, November 7. Over 350 people attended the evening representing our churches, volunteers, board members, Hospice, CRTC, Girls' Club, neighbors, summer staff, SWiMs, and campers.
Jen Kenneally and her wonderful crew of helpers made the evening seamless. Nancy Landrigan, the Moderator of the Fowler Board of Trustees, greeted the gathered community and the White brothers and "Route 55" provided music. One of the evenings highlights was our honoring of Chris Hayes, our Operations Manager, who will be stepping down at the first of the year after 12 years of good and faithful service.
The final numbers are now in and we....I mean, "YOU", raised a little under $32,000!
The Fowler Board has designated that a tithe of these donations will go to help flood relief efforts by our churches affected by the hurricanes.
Starting in 2010, Fowler was required to raise all of its own financial support. This year, $150,000 will have to be raised in order to meet the budgetary needs of the Camp and Retreat Center. If you would like to be part of this great ministry, please consider giving a year end donation. You can donate online or by sending checks made out to "Camp Fowler", 1790 Grand Blvd, Schenectady, NY 12309.
Come mid-November there will be some new faces around Camp Fowler. Mark Hughes was unanimously selected by the Fowler Ministries Board to become our next Operations Manager. Mark will be moving his family (Melissa and children Joshua and Lillian) from Beavercreek, OH.
But Speculator is not an unfamiliar place to the Hughes. Mark spent his summers growing up in Speculator and he and Melissa met while working on staff at Camp-Of-The-Woods. Mark has a degree from SUNY Delhi in carpentry and spent 7 years working carpentry in Speculator for a local construction company and Camp Of The Woods.
They are excited to be 'back home.' Chris and Kelly Hayes will be moving into their home in Piseco making way for the Hughes in the Manager's house at camp. Chris will work alongside of Mark for a few weeks before taking some well earned, long delayed vacation time. The Hayes' will be living in the area and continue to think highly of their time at Fowler.
Camp remains full this Autumn. We have had 4 weddings take place this September and a number of retreat groups who have enjoyed beautiful weather. Camp Erin brought over 130 kids and adults together and was sponsored by the Capital Region Hospice. We've also lead a canoe course for CRTC (the Capital Region Theological Center) which was a wonderful time paddling from Long Lake to Tupper.
A great place for a family vacation :)
