Canoe TippingBy Beth Luck We were on a youth group retreat in Fall. During our free time we all went around Camp looking at things to see how they changed from the Summer. I was walking along the path by the chapel when I heard someone saying how cold it was and how big the waves were and AH that was a big one. This conversation continued for another minute or so getting my curiosity up. I looked through the trees toward the lake and saw my sister sitting in a canoe making these comments while her friend was in the water trying to get the canoe back to the beach. They did not have any paddles. Obviously the person in the water had no idea that my sister was not helping and was also suffering from near hypothermia. I couldn't let my sister get away with this so I asked the person in the water what she was doing. She told me they had taken the canoe out as far as they could without paddles by pushing off from the shore. The wind had taken them out a bit and then blew them back to shore and they couldn't get the canoe back. I asked her what she meant by they (my sister was by then making funny be quiet gestures). She answered that my sister was helping her. I asked how she could when my sister looked very warm and dry riding in the back while she looked cold and wet. Needless to say the canoe tipped over and my sister got a little of what she deserved. |
